My cute sister Maddie came to visit last weekend, and it was so fun to have her around. We're 10 years apart but it only feels like 2. Makes me wish even more that we lived close to my family. She met Kai for the first time and he LOVED her!
The main reason she came was to see our favorite band together, BRAND NEW. I've been listening to them since 9th grade (over a decade!) and have seen them in concert 6 times, and each and every time my mind is blown. So when Maddie told me they were her new favorite band a few years ago, I was so excited to share that together. Thursday we walked around BYU and then ordered Pizza Hut stuffed crust pizza (my FAVORITE!) Friday we went for a stroll in Provo canyon since the weather was so nice, then rushed home to get ready for the concert. We got there right as the doors opened and managed to squeeze up to the 5th row in the mosh pit, but it was kind of crazy.
Now, I've been to over 30 concerts in my life, but none this crazy. I've been tossed around and bruised and smashed until I couldn't breathe, but this was a whole different level of insanity. These people were nuts. One of the opening bands played some fast songs, and I barely survived that. By the time Brand New finally came on we were soaked in sweat (from people around us), had been kicked, punched, and had our hair ripped out. I survived 2 Brand New songs and then had to get the heck outta there. I have never ever bailed at a concert like that, but I honestly think I could have died in there, given my small 100lb 5ft 3 frame. So then I tried to go to the back where it was more calm but it was packed body to body all the way to the back of the venue. Brand New kind of has a cult following, and apparently the cult has now quadrupled in size. It was still so fun to hear them live, but I've never had to stand so far back at one of their shows before. Maddie came back and found me a few songs later and we cherished the last few songs the played. Gosh they're good.
Here's some pics from our weekend:
