What a fun and crazy week! We drove over 36 hours in a car for a two and a half day vacation, but it was definitely worth it. Next time we'll make sure to do at least a 4 day trip though. It all started when I decided we needed a get-away before baby girl comes. She's not due until February, but October is one of the cheapest times to travel so I seized the oppurtunity and looked into going to Banff, Canada. It's a beautiful national park that I visited for a family reunion 8 years ago and loved it. Normally I am more of a tropical vacation kind of person, but Banff is soooo beautiful that it equals tropical for me. It has the most grande beautiful mountains and glaciers you've ever seen, with turquoise blue water in all of the lakes and rivers. It's truly stunning. The vibrant blue water looks like it belongs in the Carribbean or something. Ahhh i still cant get over it. Our stay was wayyyy too short and we didn't get to do everything we wanted.
Let's start with the drive there...
we decided to drive straight through, and boy was that a mistake. Maps said it would take about 14.5 hours, but then you add in stopping time for eating, diaper changing, baby-calming, a few wrong turns, and and suddenly you've got an 18 hour trip. We left around 10:00 am and got there around 4:00 am. Don't get me wrong, Kai did amazing. He seriously just sat calmly in his car seat most of the time. I bought him a new toy for the trip, a little steering wheel with lights and sounds, (you can buy it here) and that was a lifesaver. He's just the best little traveler! I even sat in the front seat most of the time, since every time I went to the back he seemed to get more fussy. Anyways, Kolby was a saint and drove the ENTIRE way. (mostly because he doesn't trust my driving ha). He even spotted a bear and a wolf in the road when we were winding through the mountains at night. We played 20 questions to help keep him awake, and rocked out to our favorite CDs.
When we finally arrived at 4:00 am, which was way later than we had planned, we were more exhausted than we had been in a longgg time. It was so nice to collapse in a bed and crash. However, we made the mistake of having Kai sleep with us that night, so he kicked us all night and pushed us off the bed. The rest of the trip he did great in his pack n play though.
I had spent hours researching where to stay, comparing prices and ratings (typical me) and finally decided on Lake Louise inn, a cute place just 3 minutes from the beautiful Lake Louise. I chose it because it was like a studio apartment with a cozy fireplace, balcony with a beautiful view, and a kitchen to cook in and prepare our meals. (There aren't many restaurants in the area and I was more in the mood for home-cooked meals, though we ended up eating mostly bagels, sandwiches, yogurt, and mac n cheese!)
We woke up the next morning a little late, still feeling extremely tired, ate some bagels, and decided to take a stroll around Lake Louise, probably the most popular tourist site there. Kai was like a little celebrity and everyone just had to stop and comment about how insanely adorable he is. A lot of the tourists even wanted photos with him. So funny!
I think these pictures do a better job of describing it's beauty than I ever could. However, it's way more stunning in person. You just gotta trust me on that one.

After Lake Louise we tried to go for a drive on a famous road with glaciers and beautiful views, but got turned around for 2 hours in the wrong direction. Whoops! We made it back just in time to enjoy Lake Moraine for an hour and snapped some photos there. Some of these of Kai are my favorite pictures ever. He was actually freezing and his lips started turning blue, so he was very calm for all of the pictures and seemed confused at this new concept of feeling cold.
We met a couple who had just gotten engaged a few minutes ago and they asked us to take their photos, so they took some of us! What a perfect place to propose.
Thinking about sweet baby girl in there
She already makes me smile.
This boy loves rocks and sticks. Such a boy!
You can't tell in most of the pics above because it was starting to get dark, but Lake Moraine's water was that beautiful turquoise blue just like Lake Louise.
Kai's outfit:
Boots- Kohl's
Beanie, vest, shirt- Target
Pants- Gymboree

I'll post the rest of our photos from the other days soon. We started calling baby girl a name during this trip and it feels right! Hoping it sticks!
